Building Business Success w/ UX pt. 2

In our previous post, we set out to establish why UX is so incredible. It results in a greater ROI. It builds brand awareness and loyalty. Heck, it even helps the elderly and disabled.

(Do yourself a favour and check it out)

For this post, we’ll make things a bit clearer.

We’ll look at some of the UX research and stats that exist, explore ways in which UX has an impact on business and how to get started with a UX designer.

Let’s start with some juicy stats.

A Few Interesting Stats on UX Design

Convincing yourself that UX Design is worth the investment isn’t too difficult.

A simple online search will present you with a variety of UX stats. Some stand out, others don’t.

Here are a few that definitely stick out like a legacy issue:

  • A report by Forrester claims that the ROI on UX Design is 9,900%. That is, every £1 invested in UX results in a return of £100.
  • UX Design has a significant impact on customer retention, 88% of users see a bad user experience as enough to never return to a website.
  • A whopping 32% of customers would leave a brand they were loyal to after a single bad experience.

On the investment front, nearly every source will tell you that the returns are incredible.

If you’re competing in the digital realm, then interface, experience and the journey that the customer/employee takes is crucial.

Consider how important it is for customer retention. If you offer a bad or unintuitive experience, then you’re guaranteed to lose out on a load of customers and leads.

And whether they’re engaging with your brand for the first time or the tenth time, the ultimate goal is a pain-free and comfort-driven experience.

How UX impacts business

If the stats weren’t a clear enough indication of its effect on business, then we’ll do a bit more unpacking.

Investing in UX Design means so much more than just the ROI. There are numerous benefits (short and long term) that are well worth every cent.

Increased Conversions

User interfaces exist in many shapes and forms. Whether it’s a website or an application, there always exists a large element of design.

You can find problems in over-complicated designs that confuse and overwhelm the user. Complicated language. Too much visual clutter. No order or direction.

Or even designs that are bland, unfriendly and off-putting. Lack of colour or colour orchestration. Hard, sharp visuals, rather than sleek, smooth visuals. Again, no order or direction.

All of this can hinder potential customers and decrease your chances of making conversions. Look at the best interfaces out there (Uber, Instagram, Monday, Android) and you’ll notice that they are user-friendly, easy to understand and address the user’s problems. They also convert like crazy.

Cost Reductions

Every project has some risk attached. Prototyping and releasing a website or an application can bring about bugs, issues, failures or setbacks.

And with that comes customer churn, losses and even more expenses down the line.

By having a UX designer from the very beginning, there’s more focus on research, analysis and testing. It becomes a lot easier to spot usability issues earlier during the initial prototyping.

Which usually results in pre-emptive developmental changes that can save on expenses. Not to mention the reduction in time that it would take to complete the project.

Enhanced Brand Integrity

Building trust and credibility with customers is essential to the longevity of any business. If they don’t trust you, they’ll seek out your competition.

And if they don’t like you, they’ll tell others.

People love good experiences. If it’s a good experience, it’s a positive memory. And every interaction with a company acts as an experience.

If a good UX design isn’t creating a great, new experience for potential customers, then it should at the very least strengthen and nurture the relationships with existing ones.

Customer Retention

To retain customers is a whole game in itself. It requires plenty of strategy and research. It takes care, empathy and communication to maintain.

And while there are a variety of exciting ways to surprise and delight your customers, your website or application should be doing just that at every turn.

Features should be intuitive, visuals should be pleasing and copy should be engaging. It’s all about curing as many pain points that they might have. Through feedback and empathy, you’re able to create lasting relationships by simply being awesome.

Getting Started with a UX Designer

As business becomes more competitive, user experience becomes more important.

It defines your differentiating factor. It drives your ability to compete in an ever-growing market.

It’s your secret weapon to credibility, ROI and retention.

Our advice: Look into UX Design investment. It will make a massive, noticeable difference.
